This year, we at Advent Episcopal Day School, will be celebrating our 40th year serving the families in Tallahassee. What once started as a ministry of the Episcopal Church of the Advent in Tallahassee as one classroom with twenty-five preschoolers is now a school that has 15 classrooms with approximately 180 children ranging from 18 months through age 5.
There are three programs that are available at Advent Day School:
1. Half Day Class which runs from 9AM until 12noon. Available 2,3 and 5 days a week.
2. Early morning start at 7:30 and lunch program that runs until 2:30. These are drop in programs that have an additional cost.
3. Full day program runs from 7:30 until 5:30
Advent's philosophy is to get children ready for kindergarten, starting with the youngest child until they leave us, by expanding your child's world and his/her experiences with the world. This is possible through the following:
1. Special area classes for all ages in movement, music, cooking, science, art and chapel.
2. Free play, outdoor play, organized activities, and circle time.
3. Reading, writing, and language development opportunities are continually occurring.
4. Learning through a variety of instructional strategies, including dramatic play, discovery, discussion, cooperative and independent learning.
5. Learning through play and not always pencil and paper.
6. Making choices
7. Learning to interact and socialize with peers in an appropriate way
Our goal with this blog is to show the families and community in Tallahassee what is going on at Advent, what Advent is all about and some fun things to do with your toddlers and preschoolers.
